Language Confution

It has been almost 2 weeks since I arrived at Mankato, so far my language speaking skills were not so bad. Although lately, I feel that I'm confusing myself more often than at the beginning. I almost never speak in my mother tongue since just me and Isabel speak the same language here (Spanish), but we are always with our friends so we speak in English. Most of the time I'm speaking, thinking, reading, and writing in English. There are few opportunities to speak Spanish (talking with my family by SKYPE). So, lately my mind is adjusting to this new field of "English Command". Recently, I always do fools mistakes that I realize later that are incorrect, so a correct myself. Sometimes, others ask me something and I answer in Spanish... especially with short answers... I do not understand completely what is going on with my mind. I guess that it just take a while for my mind to put and organize everything in its place.

It is fascinating how the mind works. I can not assure that the same thing happens with other international students, but it applies in my case. I just hope that after being here I can speak fluently, and better without Spanish accent. On the other hand, I do not want to loose my accent in Spanish. I have seen some Costa Ricans that after spending a while out of the country they lose their accents and speak with a weird one. In any case, different issues may appear sooner or later... this language confusing is one of them. I hope and think that it is just a matter of time.

Zully,
